The event in Polus Center Cluj offered children the chance to have a go at programming the robots and then participate at a Q&A session. See the gallery.

Students at the International School of Cluj had the chance to explore the world of robotics on Thu 1st October 2009. Come and join us in Polus Center Cluj on Friday, 2nd October at 5.00pm where you will meet the robots and, if you are passionate about the robotics, you will be able to subscribe for the introductory course this fall.

Registration for the Robot World programme is now open! Visit our partner's website at NoteMari.ro and register before October 10th, or as soon as possible since there is a limited number of available places!

This fall Flourishing Mind, in association with Note Mari and Scoala Internationala, will launch the event "Robot World" in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, a programme dedicated to children that are passionate about science and technology.

Update! The activities will now start on October 12th, as requested by some of the participating schools. Thus the deadline for registration has been postponed. Activities will be held in English, with the possibility of translating them into Romanian, and are carefully divided into stages, in the form of an introductory robotics course.

1. Course description

Our programme is structured in 4 main stages and an additional stage is dedicated to the final competition. Each of these corresponds to a three-hour session in a day and each session will take place in a different week in October. The final event which includes the competition day and awarding ceremony will take place on October 31st.

Induction (Day 1)
The first day is meant to teach you the basics of building up a robot. You will be presented with a set of instructions which you will together with your teammate. You will develop skills which will help you build the robot for the competition day. In the same time, we will show you how the servo-motors work and how they can be used in order to make the robot move. Towards the end of the class you will program the robot to fulfill its first task.

Sensors (Day 2)
This day is almost entirely dedicated to the ability of the robot to "sense" and interact with its environment. Sensors play an important part in programming and will be almost always used in a successful approach to any of the missions. We will explain every detail of how each of the sensors works and we will allocate sufficient time for you to familiarise yourself with their settings. At the end of the day, you will have gained enough experience to allow you to build and program your own robot. You will also receive a guide which you can use at home or during class.

A robot for the competition (Day 3)
This is one of the most important days. The competition rules will be explained and together with your other teammates you will build the robot for that day. Being creative is very important when you are building a robot capable of fulfilling the missions. Teamwork is just as important as creativity; the more ideas your team comes up with, the more effective your robot will be. The team which will be the most well-organised will probably be the team that will win the competition.

An Intelligent Robot (Day 4) In this day you will program the robot so that it will behave smartly. You will also have time to test your programs, make final adjustments to the construction of the robot and see how the robot performs when attempting to solve the missions. But remember, successfully completed missions will only be taken into consideration the next day.

Competition Day All teams that have participated at our programme will compete against each other on this day. Their parents and friends are welcome to join them as spectators and encourage them. At the end of the day, the programme will end with the awarding ceremony.
